Writing for SU

Submitting Manuscripts to Scripture Union

Scripture Union is very pleased to consider your writing, but before you submit it to us, please consider the following:

  • We are a Christian movement and only publish titles that are in line with our statement of faith. Please see www.scriptureunion.org.uk, then click ‘About us’, followed by ‘Ministry with SU’ in the ‘About SU’ menu.
  • In reality we publish very few unsolicited manuscripts.
  • Scripture Union’s mission is to ‘use the Bible to inspire children, young people and adults to know God’. We will assess each manuscript according to how closely it sticks to this aim.
  • Any submitted work will also need to fit with the emphases and title count in our current Publishing Strategy, or else be suitable for meeting another emerging need in church resourcing that fits readily with Scripture Union’s mission statement.
  • We publish for children, young people and adults, and for those who work with them in a Christian context.
  • In particular we publish the following kinds of resource: for children – fiction that explores what it means to live for God, retold Bible stories, Bible information resources, Bible background information titles, periodical daily Bible reading guides, non-periodical Bible reading guides, practical prayer resources; CDs of Christian songs; Bible-based resources that can be used in schools; for young people guides to living for God in the teenage years, periodical daily Bible reading guides, non-periodical Bible reading guides; for adults periodical and non-periodical Bible teaching and discipleship resources for adult leaders working in a variety of contexts with children and young people; all-age worship resources; holiday club materials (including DVDs); midweek club materials for use with children who haven’t been part of a church group; ‘how to’ books on reading the Bible and prayer; retold Bible stories; Bible study guides; practical handbooks for a variety of church-based ministries and for growing faith in families.
  • We do not currently publish: animal stories; biographies or autobiographies; poetry/poems; fiction for adults; fiction for teenagers.

If the concept you have developed or the book you have written fits these criteria, please send a synopsis of the whole work along with a sample chapter or unit along with a stamped self-addressed envelope to:

Christina Simms, Scripture Union, 207–209 Queensway, Bletchley, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, MK2 2EB.

There will not be any acknowledgement of receipt of submissions, but all submissions will be duly considered, and we will contact you with our response in due course.

Thank you.
